Este medicamento está indicado no tratamento de giardíase ( infecção do intestino delgado causada pelo protozoário flagelado, Giardia lamblia ), amebíase (infecção causada por qualquer uma de várias amebas), tricomoníase (infecções produzidas por várias espécies de Tricomonas), vaginites ( inflamação na vagina) por Gardnerella vaginalis e infecções causadas por bactérias anaeróbias (que crescem na presença de baixas concentrações de oxigênio ou até mesmo na sua ausência) como Bacteroides fragilis e outros bacteroides, Fusobacterium sp, Clostridium sp, Eubacterium sp e cocos anaeróbios.<table style="margin-top: 20px;
