Semaglutida é indicado no tratamento de adultos com diabetes mellitus tipo 2 insuficientemente controlada, como adjuvante à dieta e exercício Semaglutida deve ser administrado uma vez por semana a qualquer hora do dia, com ou sem refeições. Semaglutida deve ser injetado por via subcutânea no abdómen, na coxa ou no braço. O local da injeção pode ser alterado sem ajuste da dose. Semaglutida não deve ser administrado por via intravenosa ou intramuscular. A Semaglutida não deve ser utilizado em doentes com diabetes mellitus tipo 1 ou no tratamento da cetoacidose diabética. A Semaglutida não é um substituto da insulina. Não existe experiência em doentes com insuficiência cardíaca classe IV da NYHA, pelo que a utilização de Semaglutida não é recomendada nestes doentes. Em 8 ensaios de fase 3a, 4792 doentes foram expostos a Semaglutida. As reações adversas mais frequentes nos ensaios clínicos foram os distúrbios gastrointestinais, incluindo náuseas (muito frequentes), diarreia (muito frequentes) e vómitos (frequentes).
